Young Actors Theatre of Slidell (YATS) & Slidell Little Theatre is offering Technical Theatre Training
Under the direction of Fred Martinez, this program will focus on stage management, lights, sound. Participants will be presented with the principles of design coupled with hands-on learning. This program culminates in the weeks following the sessions by applying the knowledge and skills learned to assist with YATS productions.
The program is open to all students entering 8th grade through adults (young and young-at-heart). You do not have to be registered in the YATS program to participate. There is no charge for these sessions, however we hope that the skills learned will be put to the test during our YATS program and main stage season beginning in August.
Participants will explore Stage Management through the basic stages of Pre-show, Rehearsals, Performances, and Post-show activities and understand how Stage Managers act as the overall communication resource for the Director and Cast. Participants will participate and build a Stage Management portfolio to use not only for the YATS productions, but for any additional production that may follow.
Session 1: June 4, 12:00 – 2:00 pm
For the Lighting workshops, participants will see how lighting designs come together to illuminate the stage. Theory and principles will be put into practice creating the light designs, building cues, learning lighting board operation, and much more to support the four YATS productions. Participants will have hands-on experience with the lights in hanging and manipulating the light instruments, setting light cues, and running the light board.
Session 2: June 11, 12:00 – 2:00 pm
Are you more into music or have a flare of expressing yourself with sound? The Sound workshops will enhance your ability for computer sound building to design and create sounds for the stage. Participants will examine the world of sound and give their creative minds a chance to compose, edit, and play! Participants will work with actual sound programs used in many theatres today, as well as set the sound cues, wire the sound through speakers, and create the best sound levels for the audience.
Session 3: June 18, 12:00 – 2:00 pm
